We went up to Leadville mid Saturday on July 30th to camp out and hike up Hope Pass the next day.

Left Littleton after dropping off the dogs and picking up Ryan H. (my pacer for the first 37 miles). Got up to Leadville and found a campsite at Twin Peaks campground and got to work on a fire and dinner before the rain came in. Had fun even though it caused an early night. We got up early to make breakfast before heading back into Twin Lakes to start our adventure at 8. Besides Courtney, Ryan and me, Amy, Leila, Nick, and Amy’s two friends (I won’t try spelling their names!) joined us for our adventure.

We left the lot and after about 5 minutes, lost the trail and had to go through the swamps to find our destination. This was actually really fun though, even if we were worried about leaches. Anyway, the hike up to the top was brutal. There is about 3,000′ of climbing over 3 miles on this section. Rough stuff! By the time we finished, we were definitely beat.

We left Twin Lakes and decided to go through Buena Vista up 285 instead of I-70. Glad we did! Stopped at the Eddyline Brewery in the new urbanist community in town. Great food and beer! Overall, it was a great weekend! Love the high country!
